The Performance Art Center features a theater box enveloped in a metal mesh, held aloft by three buildings. Two new structures support theater operations, while a repurposed one serves as administrative space. Beneath the theater, a glass pavilion houses a bookshop, café, and box office, leading to an outdoor area and an adjacent courtyard with an amphitheater, delineated by the mesh. This courtyard is an informal gathering and performance space. The theater extends over the street, creating a sheltered area for audience drop-off and post-show gatherings.
One new building, with a green metal facade, accommodates theater support facilities like changing rooms, a resource center, rehearsal spaces, and studios, featuring a design that enhances interior light. Another, with a blue corrugated facade and large circular windows, houses production spaces for sets, costumes, and props, including a loading dock and library. These buildings enhance visitor circulation to the courtyard and amphitheater, with a grand staircase integrating the experience, emphasizing the process of theater-going.
